Presence ("we", "our", or "the app") is committed to protecting your
privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when
you use the Presence mindfulness and wellness application.
Our Privacy-First Approach
Presence is designed with privacy at its core. All your data stays on your
device. We do not collect, transmit, or store any of your personal
information on external servers.
Information We Collect and Store Locally
When you use Presence, the following information is stored locally on your
device only:
Journal Entries
- Date and timestamp of each check-in
- Your written responses to grounding questions (e.g., "What is one
sensation you notice in your body right now?")
- Your written responses to gratitude questions (e.g., "What is one small
thing you are grateful for today?")
App Settings
- Your notification time window preferences (earliest and latest hours for
daily reminders)
- Default range: 9 AM to 8 PM (customizable)
- Onboarding completion status
- Check-in completion status and streak count
Information We Do NOT Collect
Presence does not collect:
- Your name, email address, or any personal identifiers
- Location data or GPS information
- Camera or photo access
- Contact information
- Device hardware identifiers
- Health or fitness data
- Biometric data
- Any usage analytics or tracking data
How We Store Your Data
Local Storage Only
All data is stored locally on your device using platform-native secure
storage:
- iOS: NSUserDefaults
- Android: SharedPreferences
No Cloud Storage
- We do not use cloud storage or backend servers
- Your data never leaves your device
- No data synchronization with external services
- No automatic backups to cloud services
Data Persistence
- Your data persists locally until you delete the app or manually clear
entries
- If your device performs automatic backups (e.g., iCloud Backup, Google
Backup), your Presence data may be included in those device-level backups
according to your device's backup settings
User Accounts and Authentication
Presence does not require or support user accounts:
- No login or sign-in required
- No account creation
- Complete anonymity
- Your data is tied to your device, not to any personal identifier
Third-Party Services
No External Data Transmission
Presence does not use:
- Analytics services
- Advertising networks
- User tracking services
- Cloud synchronization services
- External APIs or servers
Google Fonts
The app uses Google Fonts for typography. Font files may be downloaded
from Google's servers when you first use the app, but this does not
involve any transmission of your personal data.
Local-Only Libraries
All other libraries used by Presence operate entirely on your device
without external communication.
Notifications
Presence uses your device's local notification system to send daily
check-in reminders:
- Notifications are scheduled entirely on your device
- No third-party notification services are used
- You can customize notification timing or disable them entirely
- During onboarding, you explicitly choose whether to enable notifications
Permissions
Presence only requests the following permissions:
- Notifications: To send you daily check-in reminders (optional)
We do NOT request access to:
- Location
- Camera
- Contacts
- Microphone
- Photos or media
Your Rights and Controls
Access Your Data
- View all your journal entries in the "Reflections" screen
- Review your settings at any time
Delete Your Data
- Clear individual journal entries
- Uninstall the app to remove all local data
- Use the debug reset option in settings (if available)
No Data Recovery
Since we do not store data on servers, we cannot recover your data if:
- You uninstall the app
- You lose your device
- Your device data is corrupted
Recommendation: Use your device's built-in backup features (iCloud, Google
Backup) to ensure your data is backed up.
Data Retention
- Your data is retained locally on your device indefinitely until you
delete it
- We do not automatically delete or purge your data
- No server-side retention applies (as we have no servers)
Data Security
We take the security of your data seriously:
- Data is stored using platform-native secure storage mechanisms
- Security relies on your device's operating system protections
- We recommend using device-level security features (passcode, biometric
lock) to protect access to your device
Children's Privacy
Presence does not knowingly collect any information from children. Since
all data stays on the device and we collect no personal identifiers, the
app can be safely used by individuals of all ages under appropriate
supervision.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be
reflected by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy.
We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
Data Portability and Export
Currently, Presence does not include a feature to export your journal
entries. All data remains accessible within the app on your device.
International Users
Since Presence operates entirely on your device with no server
communication, your data never crosses international borders through our
services. All data remains on your device in your physical location.
